Q&A by the Coffee Machine: Tommy Hartmann
Tommy genuinely enjoys his role as a Warehouse Operator. Why? Because of a collaborative and versatile workplace that encourages engagement and empower employees to make decisions. Tommy joined Kimbrer Computer in 2018.
What is your professional background?
In 2003, I was trained as a warehouse clerk at an automotive supplier specialized in B2B sales of auto spare parts, consumables and tools, and since then, I have worked for several retail stores—most recently as a Deputy Manager. So, before joining Kimbrer Computer, I have pretty much always been working in the automotive industry.
What is a work day like for you?
Actually, I'm doing a bit of everything and my work days can be very different. On a daily basis, I'm working closely with colleagues to make sure the warehousing operation runs smoothly and efficiently. More specifically, my main tasks consist of receiving and processing incoming stock, as well as picking and packing orders for shipment. It's a long list, but hey, that's what I think makes my job so exciting!
You have recently been named 2019 Employee of the Year by your co-workers. What does that mean to you?
It really means a lot! Being recognized by your colleagues—the people you're working with every day—is very special and a huge privilege. It's a great feeling knowing that people appreciate what you're doing. I'm deeply honored and so thankful.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most? And what are the biggest challenges you face?
A lot of it is about the people—the social aspect. We all get along, and it's like one big family where everybody is there for each other. For me personally, the importance of having good relationships with colleagues cannot be overestimated. I also enjoy the degree of unpredictability and the fact that no two days are alike.
We are often very busy, so the logistics—to make it all come together—is probably the biggest challenge. We're working closely with both Sales and our technicians, so there are many parts of the organization that need to be taken into account when shipping and receiving packages.
Why is Kimbrer Computer an attractive company for you to work in?
I enjoy working here because of the work environment, the culture and the leadership. Kimbrer Computer really exemplifies the 'family-like' environment and a flat hierarchy even with the amazing growth and development the company has experienced the past years. We are an evolving company in a fast-paced market, and still, Kimbrer Computer invests so much in its employees, who are also involved in the decision-making process. This truly creates a strong sense of teamwork and a genuine spirit of cooperation and shared goals—all revolving around helping our customers.
What two or three things are most important to you in your job?
Playing an active role in providing a positive customer experience is definitely one of the most important things and a huge motivation as well. I also like that things are well-organized as it helps improve safety and productivity while also improving the order fulfillment process. For me, organization is one of the keys to a healthy and effective working environment in which you can learn, grow and develop.
